Visiting the Parental Units in Cal City

Jonny and I traveled from one desert to another on Monday, from Casa Grande to California City in the middle of the Mojave Desert. This desert is full of my favorite Joshua Trees.

We passed by a windmill farm near Palm Springs. The look pretty cool from the highway. The largest ones are about 150 feet tall. Apparently they produce about 600 million kilowatt hours a year.

5 years ago I Flew my light trike,18hp, from a little known airstrip near Desert Hot Springs, to Banning , low, over those Windmills.
Anyone should fly the area a lot before trying this.
This is something that can be done only a couple times a year since it is usually over 25 mph in the Banning Pass.
Winds were light when I left, and over 15 when I got to Banning. I got tossed around alot on approach , 20 minutes later, back to DHS and flew again over those windmills. What a sight flying over them with their Blades truning !!
(Thanks Dependable JPX engine !)
It is a memory that will last a lifetime.
